New license

I had to get a replacement driver's license because my old one went once too often through the washing machine. (When will we ever get a credit card sized license?) Anyway, I sent off the form, the fee and the photographs and got the license back in no time.

I know it's easy to argue that it should always be like that, but we all know that there are some public services that take forever to complete the simple tasks. I'm impressed at how efficient Wicklow County Council was processing my license.

How lucky you are!
Here in Italy you could wait forever for everything...
Our last driving licenses are in credit card size and material, but the earlier were of canvas printed with weak ink and two only journeys through the washing machine were lethal...
I and my wife were in Bray in the evening of June 13th. We had our dinner at the Barracuda with a friend from Sandymount, Dublin.
We slept in Enniskerry and the following day we visited the Fassaroe Cross and from there many other wonderful places around the south-eastern five counties.
Cheers!

Glad you had a good time in Bray/N. Wicklow. I had dinner in the Barracuda last Friday night. I haven't been there that often, but I haven't been disappointed yet.

My license had been through the washing machine at least 5 times and once in the pocket of my bathing suit when I was swimming in the Irish Sea. After all that it just started to disintegrate.

I feel your pain with regard to public services in Italy. Things used to be that way here too. I can't tell you exactly what changed, but it has.

We met our friend from Sandymount the first time that evening.
We only knew him through his blog, now closed. We kept in touch via some emails and sms and when I and my wife decided to go to Ireland again we told him.
The choice of the Barracuda was his.
We come to Ireland every time we can, the last time was last year in May. If you want to have a look at my pictures from those holidays, please, feel free to click

and surf through the hundreds of pictures I shot during those 23 days!

My opinion is that even politicians are the same all around the world, your politician have been able to find the perfect compromise between their own business and the good of the country they represent. Of course nothing is perfect on this Earth, but there's a lot of difference between how we are ruled and how you are ruled and served.

If only I could get some of your happy juice, right?

Duh, I think if I were as negative as you suggest I'd be posting a lot more often (so far 5 posts in 2007).

Oh, and by the way, what's wrong with wanting credit card sized licenses? Is it really that much of a dig to want a smaller license? How sensitive does one have to be to read that as anything other than a polite request?
