Art

I had a digital camera with me the other day and I was inspired to take pictures of my favorite public art. My biggest regret with regards to this sculpture (? installation? what should it/they be called?) is that I wasn't there the day the crane was blocking traffic so that it could lift and replace the two big blocks. People I know who live in the vicinity thought that these blocks were left over or misplaced construction materials. Needless to say, they were stunned when they were turned in order to change the "aspect" of the "piece".

Even the speed limits have been set

I have nothing left to complain about now? Wow. 100 km/h is the limit from Loughlinstown roundabout to the M50 interchange. It all seems so 'final'.

I'd like to thik that they'll someday prevent M50 traffic from exiting at Shankill and force them onto the next exit (about an extra mile or two of driving) as there is too much happening in a short distance.

Greystones baseball

I do some coaching in Greystones. Here's an article on a US town that is the model for what we need to do in Greystones (yes, yes, I'm just kidding).

Interchange

I'm not impressed with the layout of the new road whatsoever. Southbound is particularly bad and when traffic gets heavier I think we could see some nasty incidents.

I think the M11's right lane should have run paralell with the merging two lanes to the right for a much longer distance. The short run means that people are compelled to shift lanes, possibly before a safe gap exists and/or before the M50 traffic has adjusted to the large influx of merging traffic. Really, the road should be three lanes beyond Bray (four until Shankill). I also think traffic coming along the M50 should not be allowed to exit at Shankill, but should be forced to the first Bray exit.

We'll see.

More on the speed limits

I love the consistency with which speed limits are posted. I figured I'd give it a while, but it looks like there will be no speed limit posted at the start of the M11 (south). That means coming off the Loughlinstown roundabout's the 50 km/h speed applies right up to the point where the M11 merges with the M50.

So far I haven't seen a single soul traveling anywhere near the 50 km/h speed.
